Essential insights into

Internal Communication

Three vital facts about  Internal Communication every organisation needs to act on (and hardly anyone does)

01.

Its universality

Internal Communication (IC) is the most universal of all business activities:

  1. Everybody does it
  2. It provides much of the raw material with which every employee thinks about their work.

The better the quality of that raw material, the better the quality and efficiency of the work your people can do.

Bottom line: Effective IC is critical for your organisation’s bottom line.

02.

Its Imposterism impact

IC can often be a source of much Imposter Syndrome, in two ways:

  1. People unsure they’re good enough at IC itself
  2. Poor IC from elsewhere in your organisation may leave some employees unsure if they’re meeting other expectations, or are safe to ask for help.

Bottom line: poor IC can adversely affect employees’ psychological safety, and their performance.

03.

Its vulnerability

Human beings aren’t born with an IC gene:

  1. but most organisations expect employees to instinctively know how to identify what needs communicating, to whom, when and how, in any business situation they ever encounter – without being taught how to do this
  2. the costs of that flawed expectation, in terms of wasted time, compromised quality of work, psychological unsafety, and lower brand value can be huge.

Bottom line: enabling employees to become increasingly effective internal communicators can significantly improve everyone’s well-being and performance, and your organisation’s bottom line.
